Today, I was at a goodbye dinner with friends before I move back to America. A friend called to cry over relationship problems she refuses to fix. While I was outside trying to politely get off the phone, my friends ate and drank everything I'd ordered and closed the bill. FML

The profile says Tokyo, Japan. Completely different culture. They would be the ones to find OP's behavior extremely selfish and rude. But even though I'm not from Japan, I still find OP's behavior rude.

ah, but the FML says move back to america so he/she may have been on a work visa that expired or doing student exchange so he/she more than. likely hadn't entirely adapted to their culture yet

You should have attended your party. Keeping people waiting when they are there to see you off is exceptionally rude. You should have let the call go to voicemail and called them back after dinner. You must have been outside for awhile if the people who attended had time to eat, drink and pay. Have to say YDI. It is not the responsibility of the people who did come to see you off to waste their time while you were on the phone. And they paid! Sorry, I would take offense to you leaving your own party.

I would of told her id text her and hang up, then I can do both, eat with my friends and help out another I would just inform the people im eating with whats going in so they don't think im rude
