Yeah, I live in a town with 4 colleges in it and nearby, so it's very difficult to find a job. I've applied literally EVERYWHERE that I could even remotely be considered for, and this was the only option I had, so I took it, and I'm very grateful for it! Even if people tend to act like idiots towards me

Even if it is "true," it's rude to point it out like that. People just don't know limits anymore.
I'd rather be humorously called a "grocery slave" than be whistled for, like a dog. I hated when that happened.
It might not be said humorously. I've actually had both done to me. I do hate being whistled at more. Regardless, it's never an excuse for anyone to treat another human being like that.
Good for you perdix. I'm waiting for the end of the 'No' badasses who can't even think of a clever insult, so instead just spam variants of "No" on downvoted comments, which is usually worse than the oroginal comment. Then they get thumbed up which only encourages them. I'm sure nobody else agrees with me though.
It's amazing how people quickly forget that retail employees are humans.
This would be absolutely terrible if OP was black, I wonder if he is..
There's no KFC involved... (My black friend told me to put that..)
I dont think so, he is a she
I had a friend who was a "load the groceries in your car" slave. If customers were rude, he would rip the bottom of the paper bags after putting it in the car. If customers were cool then he would very carefully load things so the eggs did not break. If they said "thank you" he would be happy. Tips? Well at that point he was your friend for life.
Your friend is a good man, not everything is about money. I would have done the same.
Sort of anyway. We were in high school, and the job was just part time gas and party money. But there were benefits. Free beer was one :)
Sounds like its a natural consequence for the customers.
I worked in a grocery store over the summer. I feel your pain, some customers just have no respect, and most managers are absolute dicks.
One day somebody will buy socks and when they do you are free at last.

I worked in retail for years. Retail employees ARE slaves and subject to the whims of others, unfortunately.
time for a new job?
