Today, I was berated by a pharmacist, who said that kids these days are on so many unnecessary medications for "fake diseases". I was just trying to pick up the medication I've been prescribed to control my epilepsy. FML

In retrospect it probably was the pharmacy tech who made the comment, I'm never sure who's who behind the counter. Regardless, I'll be calling the store in the morning to report them and figure out if I need to do anything else to get their ass fired. Also, just for the record epilepsy is far from a "mild ailment". I consider myself lucky that I've come away from most of my seizures scoff free. But even so, I've broken three ribs, had a concussion, and incurred facial scarring from falling when I seize. Not to mention that my short term memory is shot to hell and with every seizure I have I run the risk of further cognitive decline. But yeah, the medicine is definitely unnecessary. Right.

your username is the best pun ever.

That is ridiculously unprofessional and degrading to you. I'm normally against all of the "sue him/her"-type comments, but perhaps a formal complaint is warranted here.

Been there :/ I have temporal lobe and describing to people that just because your not convulsing on the floor does NOT mean your not having a seizure. Fml

Report their behaviour to ther manager and to the Board of Health and explain exactly what they said and how they made you feel when picking up your medications.

she's partly right ...bit not in your case

I know how it feels OP, I tried to pick up a prescription the other day and was refused as the pharmacist found it 'suspicious' that my prescription was only for two weeks. Even after I had explained to him that it was because the dosage was being increased at the end of the two weeks, he still refused to give it to me, and gave me the same rant about teenagers, I ended up in tears, and just left with him glaring at me. He was really rude, and treated me like a kid, despite the fact I've been on and off this medication for three years for a serious condition. I've switched pharmacy now, so much happier for it!

I think what he meant by "fake diseases" (even though there is no such thing) Are disorders like ADD where a lot of doctors misdiagnose. Epilepsy is NOT a fake disease. Besides, these "fake diseases" is what makes him his $100k+ salary.

Haha, I feel for you. I have epilepsy as well, and everytime I go to my regular pharmacist, they check my record three to five times and call my regular doctor, just to make sure I need them at that moment. They make you feel like a junkie, even though you've lived there for years and have asked the same medication for that same amount of years, in regular intervals, with prescriptions. It's not just you, lol.

My dad has epilepsy so I have seen how seizures are harsh on your body. His short term memory has suffered too, mostly from the barbiturates he used to be on as a teenager for it. That pharmacist is an asshole, he had no grounds for saying that to you. Glad you're going to make that phone call! Good luck.

So I have gotten dirty looks too at pharmacies because I am on like 9 medications and even if the don't know what the medication is for they have no right to judge me.. If I could be off this medication I would hell it wasn't my choice to get cancer and lupus
