Today, I was cashiering, and a customer's change came to $5.51. She looked pretty stinking rich, so I just gave her $5.50. She demanded the extra penny, and I asked if she really needed it. She said, "No, but they do, asshole," and dropped her $5.51 in the charity donation box. FML

Why in the world would you not give someone correct change because they look rich?

I work as a cashier and you sound ridiculous. Why on earth would you not give her HER OWN MONEY because she looked rich?! Even though it IS only a penny, that is technically stealing, you ****.

What if she worked hard for what she has ? FYL don't hate because she has done more with her life then you

That was a shitty thing for you to do. Why on earth would u judge someone like that? It's their money so why wouldn't you give all the change back? I'm sure you wouldn't wan someone to short change you

Nice reminder that 95% of charitable donations come from the rich.

I understand that the customer looked well off- that does not give you the choice to hold ANY change from her..a penny or otherwise. I've worked in retail a very long time and I would never consider withholding money. If you forgot the penny and shut the drawer it would've been easily forgivable..but you apparently thought that you were doing the right thing by keeping the penny, and that itself is unacceptable. If you were my employee I'd fire you on the spot.

Well if you had done your job properly it wouldn't have happened. ydi

Once when I was on vacation this retarded cashier didn't give me my three pennies. But then at another store I was short on change and the guy just took it out of his tip jar. He was so nice

I work at Old Navy. All you had to do was tell her you had no more pennies and then ask if she really wanted/needed the penny. Could have avoided her snapping at you, and you looking like an idiot.

I work in customer service and I'm pretty sure that it's never okay to purposely give a customer incorrect change and then try to argue about it when they request correct change. YDI OP.
