Today, I was cashiering, and a customer's change came to $5.51. She looked pretty stinking rich, so I just gave her $5.50. She demanded the extra penny, and I asked if she really needed it. She said, "No, but they do, asshole," and dropped her $5.51 in the charity donation box. FML

Why in the world would you not give someone correct change because they look rich?

I work as a cashier and you sound ridiculous. Why on earth would you not give her HER OWN MONEY because she looked rich?! Even though it IS only a penny, that is technically stealing, you ****.

I have never heard of someone doing that on purpose!!! What an asswipe move!!!!!! 1 cent or $1000.00 taking money that doesn't belong to you is WRONG!!!!! On so many levels!!!!!

It's her money not yours. Give people their money. Doesn't matter what she does with her money. It's not your say if she should get it or not.

You must be one of those annoying cashiers who make customers break a $20 bill for a penny they owe.

ydi prick, your a bag of shit **** you pussy

YDI! was her penny, not yours to do with what you pleased!

I see where all of you are coming from but whether this person was rich or not it doesn't seem to matter. It's a ******* penny and mind you I myself would be too embarrassed to even demand the penny. Also that customer sounds like a real b****

She donated to charity. Why call her that? She was in the right.

How is the customer sounding like a bitch? She confronted the cashier about not giving her the money owed to her. And then after being asked if she really needed the penny, I think she had every right to call the cashier out for being an asshole. I would have asked for the manager right there and put the cashier on the spot immediately. The cashier deciding for the customer whether or not they need their proper change is called theft.

Who are you to decide, asshole? YDI. Hope you don't expect any sympathy.

YDI. I've worked as a cashier and had people assume horrible things about my education and intelligence level because I held that position. I'm sure this has happened to you, too; unfortunately, I don't know a single customer service employee who hasn't had that happen. Why on earth would you think the opposite was okay? Assuming negative things about people because they appear wealthy is just as bad as assuming negative things about people because they appear poor.
