Today, I was counselling a soon-to-be teen mom. She has a younger step-brother, and when I asked her how she handled him when he cries, she said, "Oh, that's when you cover their face until they stop!" FML

Am I the only one who's aware that "adoption!" is not a magical solution, the foster care system can be terrible, and many kids in it don't actually get homes but just graduate out of the system when they're old enough?

No, not all teen moms are stupid and done for life. I know a few who are just fine, raising their kid and finishing school just fine. The kind of idiot like this girl probably doesn't get all that much better with age (I know I wouldn't have ever thought to do that at 15, 16, the majority of girls wouldn't). Yes a human life should be treated with responsibility but age isn't the main factor when it comes to people who are naturally bad or good parents.

Firstly, plenty of teen mothers are capable of being good responsible parents. Most teenagers know not to smother a baby. I mean it's basic common sense. Secondly, contrary to what you may believe adoption isn't always the best option. Kids who aren't healthy white babies generally have a harder time getting adopted and the foster care system isn't great. Children should only go there if they absolutely need to. Plus, forcing a mother to put her baby up for adoption is extremely unethical and traumatic.

and this is why some people need to be sterile...

I can only assume she was being sarcastic

The success of a teen mother is largely dependent upon her support system and desire to be a good parent. Idiotic generalizations like that only make it harder for everyone involved.
