Today, I was fired for the first time in my life from a job that I actually loved and was passionate about. Apparently, none of my coworkers liked me and they thought that was a good enough reason to fire me. FML

Hey guys this is the OP here. I just wanted to give a little more background and clear some stuff up. So I didn't have the job for very long but it was something that I've been wanting to do for a long time which is working with animals. During my short period of time there I barely talked to my co-workers because there was just too much work to do and not enough time to do it. But when I did have some time to spare I would casually talk to them. I could tell they didn't love me but I thought it was just because I was new but they didn't seem to hate me either because they were nice enough to my face. My manager just told me people were making comments about me and how I worked and I wished that they came to me instead of just getting rid of me. I was a bit shocked to say the least and was very upset but it is what it is and I'm moving on. Thanks for reading and for posting my first FML.

I've got to wonder if you being passionate about the job meant you were constantly telling people what to do and how to do it.

Did that passion also involve possibly making you a pain in the ass for everyone else. Passion doesn't equal being good at your job. Worked with a guy at my last job he was passionate, but also clueless and was pretty much universally disliked. by everyone on the team.

Thanks for the follow-up! We hope you find something better soon! ♥︎

it may or may not be OP's fault. 4 of my 8 coworkers don't like me because I don't try to talk to them in Spanish (their native language.) I think they should learn English, since we are in the US. And I don't care if they don't like me, at least I am a legal citizen.

I literally just signed up to explain to you that your comment "at least I am a citizen" shows exactly why they don't like you. Happening to be born on one side of an abitrarliy decides line doesn't make you better than someone else, and thinking it does makes you far worse.

The US doesn't have any official language. Yes it happens to be that most things are in English and most people speak English, but there's still no officially recognize language. So your coworkers can speak Spanish all they want without judgment from you or anyone else.

Must be a state where they can fire you for any reason. In which case, that is a perfectly good reason. If NONE of your coworkers like, chances are high you deserved it.

Not necessarily. Some small work places can be very cliquey and will automatically dislike outsiders.

Yeah, it could be or could not be. I work a shift job, 2nd shift - by preference. The entire day shift hates me. The reason? I show them up every day, day in and day out. The job is done right, whereas they have been used to just cruising along and getting away with it for over two years. The bosses, on the other hand, love me because the complaints from the client have virtually disappeared. Screw day shift, in this instance. I didn't come here to impress them, socialize with them or care whether or not they like me.

well I do know many test future employees to see if they would be a good fit within the company so getting along with others is actually something they want.

burn that place to the ground.

OP said she worked with animals! ☹

Sorry you had this experience. As someone who has both worked and volunteered in animal rescue for years I hate to say it,but animal people can be some of the most toxic, gossipy and backstabbing bunch. Obviously not everyone but that's been my experience at several organizations. I currently work at a non-profit that helps people and I've been here almost 5 years with very little problems. I'm a huge animal lover too, so it's a bummer.

I've never had such a hard time getting into a field of work before. I've applied to many, many places around my area including vets, shelters, and pet resorts and hardly get any calls. I shadowed for a vet once and because it was filled with females they gossiped a lot and generally just all seemed to hate each other. I didn't get a call but I'm sort of glad. And then I got my job at the shelter was was immediately booted. It was a small company, only about 5 women working there. I was hoping to find people like me in this field--people that have a passion for animals and just want to help but I got pretty much the exact opposite.

That seems to be sadly common in animal care. I lost a job in a veterinary clinic the same way. A lady I knew also said that the same had happened to her at yet another clinic.
