Today, I was granted a donation to pay for a creative writing course. When I told my mom she couldn't even muster a smile. She found her excitement later, however, when she posted how proud she was of me on Facebook. I can only get praise through my mom attention-whoring on social media. FML

People get so distracted by social media today that they don't take the time to realize that memories are happening right in front of them

How rude! But apparently, the whole social media thing is really difficult for some people. They get really insecure and obsessed with how they're seen in social media. Its called Instacurity. I thought it sounded dumb at first, but then I thought, who am I to judge? I've never had that issue before so I can't really say much about it. I don't know how one could help someone with instacurity, but maybe you could look into that, OP. Maybe she's being a bad mother, but maybe she has insecurity issues.

Maybe she felt guilty about not being excited for you at first, so she posted her excitement on social media for YOU to see. Of course, she could just be attention-seeking like you think. Don't just assume that she is though, because it could be she was just in a bad mood or something when you told her. Unless she's always attention-seeking and never cares, in which case, she's just a stupid person.

I know the feeling. My mum gives me one word answers all day long because she's too busy on the internet. Its gotten to the extent I do every bit of housework or it doesn't get done.

My mother-in-law does that crap. She's always posting about how much she loves my newborn daughter, calling her "Gammi's little angel," yet she's never actually seen her in person...Sorry OP, FYL.

I wonder if your mom is clinically depressed? Maybe she can't even fake enthusiasm except on the computer. She might need some help.

That's because when she posts your achievement on her FB page she can make it about her. People will congratulate her for your achievement. I am so sorry, OP. Always remember, what your parents do not give you, it is OK to give yourself. I congratulate YOU for winning the donation. Hang in there.
