Today, I was having a conversation with my mother during which I described something as being pungent. She thought I had made up the word, so I grabbed the dictionary to show her that I hadn't. She then became enraged, threw the dictionary at my head and told me never to talk to her again. FML

Actually, I was trying to show it wasn't a made up word. :)

Can you imagine playing scrabble with that nutter? It would be so vapid.

Maybe she should have looked up the definition of "overreaction"

Great opportunity for a "u mad bro?"

The whole 'you mad bro thing'? Yeah... No. It annoys me too much for me to ever actually say. :/

Sometimes when you're around your parents it's best to follow the good ol fashioned rule: "Children shall be seen but not heard." This this rule works at any age and it helps you avoid things like this happening I find :)

Is it me or are there an awful lot of people with poor vocabulary skills who get pissed off when they're confronted with a new (to them) word that they think is made-up (well, it is, but not by the person using it)? This must be the third or fourth FML where someone describes someone becoming utterly enraged like this.

Your mom is a MILT. A Mother I'd Like to Teach.

OP, if your mom is seriously like this, your response should have been "okay."

That is not okay. It sounds abusive. Talk to someone.

at least be happy that you've moved ahead of your mom in the evolutionary scale.

you could have told her in a less humiliating way. just a thought
