Today, I was having a conversation with my mother during which I described something as being pungent. She thought I had made up the word, so I grabbed the dictionary to show her that I hadn't. She then became enraged, threw the dictionary at my head and told me never to talk to her again. FML

Actually, I was trying to show it wasn't a made up word. :)

Can you imagine playing scrabble with that nutter? It would be so vapid.

Maybe she should have looked up the definition of "overreaction"

I feel bad for you having such an ignorant, stupid, and stubborn mother. Plan your future carefully so you can escape that lousy environment.

Pungent, n. A man who is fond of plays on words.

Well, she could have exclaimed that the dictionary was wrong. A response I once got from trying to prove to someone that tomorrow is not, in fact, spelled with an a.

Just to be clear, I was definitely not being rude in any way while showing her the word. She did ask me to prove it though, so I did. Then she went bonkers.

I hope it was a small, paperback dictionary... Otherwise this just sounds very painful.

I have dodge skills thankfully! ;)

This shows how the world is like today, be glad that you have a bugger vocabulary than the 'average' person

You should follow her around with a dictionary and read her random definitions. Or, instead of random ones, start with big words that she probably doesn't know, and gradually move down to small words that insult her intelligence. When she complains, read the definitions of "willful" and "ignorance".
