Today, I was on a date with my boyfriend. As we walked back home from the cinema, he was checking his phone, when suddenly someone grabbed it and ran off. I had to be the one to go run after the thug because my 23-year-old boyfriend froze on the spot, crying. FML

Ieri tells us more.

Hey OP here o/ Lots of these comments cracked me up, you guys are awesome xD So here's the follow up: In the end someone who saw what happened grabbed the guy and we could get the phone back (Yes, an iPhone) but he ran away, though it doesn't matter anymore. In response to the comments: 1.I didn't expect him to run after the thug just because he's male, I understand why he'd freeze up, I just didn't expect he'd start crying without saying a word and it was kinda embarrassing. 2.Yeah probably going after him wouldn't have been the safest thing to do, but caught in the spur of the moment that was all I thought to do. And calling the police wouldn't help where I am, they're practically useless -.- Calling for a robbed phone would do nothing. 3.I'm not breaking up with him just because of that, I love him, things happen, I'm not that shallow. Thanks for your comments anyway xD

this reminds me of family guy when peter ditch lois in the car after a robber pulled a gun on her lol (thank you for the ride lady)

Good on you for running after the dude, OP. I can imagine some girls would just scream at the dude for crying and not running himself. This may be an fml and I wouldn't want to run after a guy myself but you actually tried and kudos to you for that.

that's a shame, now you know how he reacts to things.

Think of the bright side. Now you can get your way around him by threatening him ;) only kidding. Time to be the super "ex" girlfriend I think :)

So, she should break up with him because somebody stole his phone and he froze? Let me predict your future: S/o 1: Hey, babe. I forgot to wash a fork. "GET OUT." S/o 2: Hey, baby. I was mugged when I took your car to the car wash. I had to walk 3 miles home because my phone was in the car. "GET OUT." I think you get the point.

She should break up with him for breaking down and crying because a thief stole something right out of his hands. That sounds to me like he has no backbone, something that'll pour over into other facets in life.

Who knows if he was able to control the crying? When we face the fight or flight or freeze situation our parasympathetic system takes control, and then when it's over our sympathetic system comes back in control. It's possible during that switch from high anxiety and adrenaline back to normal he cried. It may seem dumb to us, but that's a lot of stress on the body that we don't have control over- everyone reacts differently.

#78: While I agree with the general meaning of your comment (we can't always control our body!), isn't it the other way around? I though it was the sympathetic system (not the parasympathetic) which took control when faced with fight-or-flight, and then the parasympathetic system that comes back when it's all over? I may be wrong though.... honest question! :D

You should have been like: "That is MY man's phone!"

I'm just imagining the scene from White Chicks and you tackled the guy and said, 'its not any phone, its Prada' *eye roll, hair flick, body twirl, annoyed trudge back*

At least you didn't have sex yet, not too late to break it off.

Boy, that comment is several shades of stupid. Where does it say that they haven't had sex? And really, you would dump someone over this?

So he got scared, shows he's human. It's not a bad thing.

And? I hate that some girls expect the man to be the "tough guy" or whatever but he was scared. Glad you went after the guy though.

No ones saying that he had to be the "tough guy", but really, sitting there and crying because takes your phone instead of taking steps to get it back...? A bit much. He couldn't have OP call the cops? He couldn't shout out "hey! That guy stole my phone"? Come on now. In a world like this, people like that get chewed up and spit out.
