I used to pet hedgehogs as a kid, when I found them around the forest. Very cute animals, and they have a soft spot (literally and figuratively) on their belly for tickling. Why the hell you fear a creature like that is truly beyond me..
"What the hell is the hedgehog here for?!" FYL for having to put up with that..,
How did the poor fella get past customs?
Only international flights require you to go through customs. Cross-country/state do not, and the hedgehog is perfectly fine to fly.
So, you're on a plane for hours and the person next to you has an animal. You preferred to ignore the "elephant in the room" and not even pose the slightest question to the person herself out of what would only be perceived as natural curiosity? After not mentioning anything to the person, or asking to be reseated (which is generally fine with any concocted excuse), you have no other recourse but to hyperventilate and pass out? You deserved it. Society doesn't deserve you.
Traveling with a pet is not illegal, even if the pet is a hedgehog. I have a close friend who flies with her hedgie regularly. The hedgie rides in her carrier, goes through security, etc. - just like a cat or dog would. Since that "plastic container" is most likely a small critter carrier, there is nothing potentially harmful to the hedgie in flying, either.
I feel like this is an extra fyl bc the ONE random thing you're afraid if just happens to be next to you on your flight. Rough day. I would have just asked to be moved. Phobias are serious. I'm terrified of frogs and you can bet your ass that if crazy frog lady were next to me i wouldn't be sitting there.
I'm not sure if I really believe this post... The way security is at the airport there's no way she could've gotten past security with it. Anyone whose flown in the past few years would know this.
But Sonic isn't scary! ;P

That has to be the weirdest thing to have a phobia of!
I can't sleep now that I know there are people who don't report hedgehogs on planes.
