Yes you're correct! But let me Somme a little light on the subject(warning my reply includes religion so if you're just going to hate....just don't read this!) Where I live there are two big universities that are well known and both are some of the top ranking schools in the United states. That's why my family has been going there for a long time, and the reason why I was hoping to be able to attend said school (plus their soccer team was interested in me). This school is very difficult to get into, and well not to toot my own horn, I easily had the after school activities and grades to get into said school. After praying about why I wasn't accepted I received the distinct impression that I need to go to the other school because I am needed there for some reason....so well I guess I'll see what that means some day. Luckily I also applied to this second school because out of the two this one has a better medical school, which applies more towards my major of choice. I also have scholarships at this second school so that's a bonus. So in the end I guess everything ends a lot better then expected.

You can always appeal the admissions decision. Look it up on the school's website and do everything it asks. If it asks to write a letter on why they should change their decision be sure to be humble and say that there was no mistake, lots of people are applying, you hope they can find room for you, etc. You can also Google appeal letters to get an idea.
As a BYU grad, it's very difficult for me to say this, but the U is a really good school, especially if you're going for a medical degree. BYU is better for business or engineering. Your family should support you and be happy for you if you get into an excellent university like that.
It had to start with someone
Out of my immediate family, and all of my distant family, I'm the only one who didn't graduate from college. Out of my immediate family, the closest person makes 30k less than me. There is one distant relative who was making more, but has since retired. I'm a software developer. Do what you love poster, that's all that matters.
sucker
I don't know...I always kind of thought families that all go to the same school were kind of cult-like. I guess there's the shared memories or bonding crap, but I personally think it's more fun to discover something new and make a time and place that's completely yours as you transition to being an adult and your own person. Best of luck to you, OP.
Well now it is time for you to start some of your own NEW dreams. Don't play second fiddle or in this case 5th fiddle to anyone else. ;-)
All that matters is where you go from here. Don't let this stop you from getting a degree. You can do it.

sounds like it's the college of your family's dreams. there are plenty of reputable universities out there, don't think you have to go there just because everyone else did.
Sorry OP but maybe do a year at community college and have time to work on everything you may have been lacking. Then transfer the year after. Best of luck!
