Today, I was talking to a girl. It was going pretty well until she said, "LOL." What's so bad about that? We weren't texting. FML
I agree, your life sucks 28 196
You deserved it 5 180

MyUsernameisEpic tells us more.

Okay, so this is my FML. The girl is 15, and we have classes together in school. I didn't really mind that she said it, but it was funny. That's why I decided to share it on here, and it actually got posted! Anyway, back to the story. We were talking in class about something and I made a joke and she started giggling and then, she said, "LOL!" Like, "el-oh-el". Also, I should mention that I wasn't flirting with her or anything. I'm not pursuing a relationship with her, but if I was, I wouldn't completely freak out and change my mind because she said lol. That'd make me a judgmental prick. That'd be pretty screwed up of me. Lastly, I'd like to say that I am friends with her, and just because she said lol, that doesn't mean I think she's stupid or anything.

people actually do that. I think it's pretty normal

Oh yeah. It's totally normal. When you're chatting through social media....

My ex boyfriend used to say that, too. It pissed me off every single time! So I totally get you, FYL (mine too, by the way - LOL :p)

thanks for clearing that up, that is a little weird to actually spell it out. i mean, i'll say "lawl", exactly like that, if something is mildly amusing but not actually laugh worthy, but saying it like she did is just weird.

You sure as hell didnt make it seem like you were her friend.

and why did you post this FML again? You haven't cleared anything up for me at all but just confirmed your a weener that's over dramatic about an uneventful petty moment

i agree with 80. the way OP wrote the fml was in a negative fashion towards the girl, yet in the follow up you're like "no I'm not judge mental I'm not a prick"

OP I think it's because you said "it was going pretty well" that made it come across like you were pursuing here rather than that she was your friend. It doesn't really matter but just saying how it could come across like that.

well good for you, you seem quite mature and well written for your age.

Well, I do apologize if I came across as rude or disrespectful.

You should really break yourself from that habit. It makes you sound like someone's middle aged or older mom that just is finally starting to understand technology. Try not to think of "lol" as a word and just always read that arrangement of letters in your head as "laugh out loud"

She said "LOL" irl and that's a FML? Ok, that just sounds picky.

Why do you guys hate it so much? I think it's cute.

Why not just laught out loud instead of saying the acronym?????
