Today, I was texting a girl I like, explaining how she looks like an attractive celebrity. She responded with a picture of a very unattractive lady and asked if she looked like that. I told her if she had been caught in a burning building, then yes, that would look like her. It was of her mom. FML

Hey guys. First off, I am very happy to have had this published, but I would like to clarify some things and clear the misunderstandings! My friends mom is not actually a burn victim, she just wasn't attractive at all and didn't resemble her daughter either. We had been texting previously, and she was sending me pictures of celebrities and asking if she looked like that. She then sent that picture of her mom, who was honestly very unattractive. I thought I was being clever with the whole "caught in a burning building" joke, but it was just the wrong time to use it. Believe me when I say I have nothing against burn victims, as that's seriously a weird thing to hate on. After I found out I apologized and she accepted, so everything is fine now! Thanks for taking the time to read this, I just wanted you guys to not think I'm some weird shallow guy who hates burn victims and is only after girls for their looks.

Today, I was texting a guy I liked and I sent him a picture of an older lady as a joke when he complimented me and said I looked like a celebrity. He then said it looked like the person in it got caught in a burning building. That person was my mother. FML

What he said was rude I can agree with that but, why did she feel the need to show him a picture of her mother in the first place. Seems like it was a set up in a way. Say she wasn't attractive, girl gets offended. Say she is attractive, girl gets offended because you find her mother attractive. I see it like the "does this dress make me look fat" question...

or he could of just simply answered the question: no, that doesn't look like you rather than being a jerk about it, true though, it is odd she it

I can see where you went wrong, but I also think it sounds like she was tricking you into comparing her with her mother so she would come out the victor and feel better about herself. I find it odd that she would respond that way.

I can't tell if it's a YDI or FML because that's kind of a loaded question.

We need a "you had it coming" button..

Wow OP! You messed this up so hard! She could have been expressing self-esteem issues with her own appearance by sending you the picture of her mom. Many people are told they look like one of their parents and she might take issue with that. If you want her to take interest in you, then ignore the picture and compliment her again!

Actually as you get older you look more & more like your parents! I thought that was BS when I was younger but it's true!

aww dude, women really dislike it when men are judgmental and discourteous, even if that hadn't been her mom, she would not have been impressed, a no, that doesn't particulary resemble you would have sufficed, good luck next time op

It never ceases to amaze me just how many people respond so rudely to pictures of ugly people. If you had even a tiny shred of human courtesy to people, regardless of how they looked, maybe you wouldn't have shoved your foot so far into your mouth.

Damn Op, YDI. Could've just said the girl you like is way prettier. Didn't have to call the other person ugly.
