Today, I was texting a girl I like, explaining how she looks like an attractive celebrity. She responded with a picture of a very unattractive lady and asked if she looked like that. I told her if she had been caught in a burning building, then yes, that would look like her. It was of her mom. FML

Hey guys. First off, I am very happy to have had this published, but I would like to clarify some things and clear the misunderstandings! My friends mom is not actually a burn victim, she just wasn't attractive at all and didn't resemble her daughter either. We had been texting previously, and she was sending me pictures of celebrities and asking if she looked like that. She then sent that picture of her mom, who was honestly very unattractive. I thought I was being clever with the whole "caught in a burning building" joke, but it was just the wrong time to use it. Believe me when I say I have nothing against burn victims, as that's seriously a weird thing to hate on. After I found out I apologized and she accepted, so everything is fine now! Just putting this out there, but there is a HIGH chance that her genetics will still kick in and she will end up looking very very similar to the lady she says is her mom.

Hardly, i pretty much look like my dad. It'd take some voodoo magic to make me look like my mum (who herself doesn't look like her mum, although her sister now sorta does).

It has nothing to do with burn victims. It's just rude to make a comment like that an unattractive person looks like a burn victim (or insert any other insult). But, the fact that she kept sending you pics of celebrities is kind of shallow and rude, too. You two sound like you deserve each other. Best of luck.

We all know people like OP's girl, where you can't win no matter what you say. (1) "Oh, she's ugly [or even just OK]." "She's my mom, how could you say that!" (2) "Oh, she's pretty." "So, you're hot for my mom? Ew, what's wrong with you?" (3) "Yes, you do look like her." "What -- are you saying I look 40?" (4) "No, you don't look like her." "Are you saying I'm ugly, or she is?" And so on. OP, don't feel bad -- any answer you gave would have been the wrong one. You're lucky to learn early that she likes playing these little "gotcha" games. Run now, because that's just a small part of a huge "you're always wrong" and/or mind-games-playing mentality.
