Today, I was visiting family in Oregon. I did not know it was illegal to pump your own gas; the cops were involved. FML

If the cops were called, then it must have been the station attendant trying to get themselves in trouble. The law (ORS 480.330) states that it is the gas station representative who gets in trouble if a member of the public pumps gas. It's not the person doing the pumping who would be punished. I find this FML problematic.

Yeah we have gas attendants here. It's a punishable offense to pump your own gas, up to like $2000 in fines possible. Im pretty sure the only reason that Oregon has gas attendants is to create jobs for people.

I used to live in Oregon and it's illegal only because it creates jobs for others to be strictly "gas pumpers". Logically it makes sense and the same thing occurred to me when I moved there.
