if you have out of state licence plates, a lot of times they let you pump your own gas. That's how it works for us (with our Washington plates) anyways
They usually have an attendant out there to monitor my dad while he pumps the gas but my dad is allowed to. I don't see why the police were involved...
Yeah. I moved from Florida. When I moved to Oregon. It was interesting.
I have both lived in Oregon and am old enough to remember. In ancient days gas pumps were a bit too complicated to allow common men and women to operate them so there was always an attendant to do the pumping. Then in the late 60s early 70s new pumps were installed all over that any idiot could operate. In order to reduce costs, the gas stations reduced their "pump staff" and created self serve and full service lanes. In Oregon the pump jockeys organized or were already organized and managed to get through that specious legislation about hazardous material handling in order to save their jobs. Eventually, all non Oregon pumps were cut back to self service while all Oregon pumps are manned by those voted "least likely to succeed" by their classmates. While I lived there I thought it was kind of cool that those not likely to ever qualify for employment of a more challenging nature were given a spot in society where they could contribute rather than be a drain on society. I never noticed that the prices charged in Oregon were substantially higher than elsewhere. Also, if you're passing through Oregon you'll notice that they have no sales tax, which is awesome. I'll end here because this post is already too long, but I'll just note that I could go on at great length about how their recycling laws give the homeless a source of income and keep litter to the absolute minimum.
Cool story bro
You seem to think you're better than people who work in service positions. You come across as a vicious, petty, bourgeois asshole.
Yep.
I do wonder about the idea of making a process less efficient for the sake of maintaining jobs. "Self Service" for simple tasks (resetting a password, checkouts at supermarkets, ATMs) seems to be the general way things are headed.
I grew up in Oregon and I used to pump gas. If someone from out-of-state started pumping their own, I would just remind them it's illegal and then let them finish.
What'd you do, attack the damn attendant? Jesus Christ. I grew up in Oregon and lived there for 18 years, and not once did I ever see anyone have the cops called on them because they tried to pump their own gas. Every time I go back to visit now, I just generally get annoyed that some dipshit is getting paid $9 an hour to stand around and not do their job. I've asked inattentive gas station attendants in the past that I'm just going to pump my own gas and they said they were cool with it. Meanwhile, my mom gets irritated when she comes to visit me in Seattle because she doesn't like to pump her own gas. To each their own, I suppose.
I've visited family in Oregon every year since I was born (I'm in WA, so not a long drive), and have NEVER known that.. Huh, the more you know.
Ooh I'm from Oregon!! Haha
Sounds like a waste of money to get the cops involve with a stupid law like that.
Keywords
"Sir we just need you to stop pumping your own gas." "Why can't I pump my own gas?" "Target isn't replying, shoot to kill!"
Seems odd to me that the worker would call the police before just letting you know. Unless they were passing by of course.
