Today, I watched a movie with my little sister. I couldn't understand a word that was said during one scene, but I figured it was in some kind of made-up language. When I commented on it later, she called me a moron and said it was Spanish. FML

Your sister was just ******* with your head. It wasn't Spanish, it was another made-up language called "French".

71- because we've been talking about bacon and French toast. As for why you're hungry, that's beyond my comprehension.

She must've leaned a lot from Dora! Unless you're Spanish, then you should've known...

You're smart. And you said your little sister, right?

You couldn't identify Spanish?! I would say something in spanish but even those who don't speak beat me to it...

don't be silly, American is the only language. Even us over in Britain know that.

Obviously OP lives in a bubble. Stop being a typical American and learn another language!!

But really, if OP lives in California and has never heard Spanish before, he/she must have never left his/her house.

hey let's give OP a little credit. it was only one word and we don't know what it was. it could've been something really obscure.

OP didn't mean 'a word' as in one single word in the scene, OP was saying that he/she didn't understand any of the scene at all. Read before you write.

Yes, you should read before you write. It definitely said "a word"..

the FML said "I didn't understand a word in one scene," as in ONE WORD. the text does not say anything about not understanding an entire passage. you're putting words in the text that aren't there

This is one of those things where the expression in the persons voice would have made all the difference... Too bad FML doesn't come with audio.

32- I'll try to help you here, but it's an impossible argument since OP didn't put "single" between "a" and "word". They're taking it too literally. Everyone else in this thread, OP meant the entire scene. Why would someone assume the movie's writers made up an entire language if there was only one word she didn't know?

Yeah, he/she meant the entire scene. They said: "I DIDN'T UNDERSTAND A WORD THAT WAS SAID DURING ONE SCENE" .... And "I didn't understand a word that was said" is a common expression for not being able to understand what the hell they we're saying. They definitely didn't mean ONE word.

Dothraki and Klingon are some examples of constructed languages for TV shows. Star Wars had aliens speaking. Even just for one word, maybe the movie was based on a book or more of the language was developed but cut from the final version.

One word? OP said it was one SCENE. I'm sure there have been shows with one-word scenes, but I highly doubt this is one of those situations.

Español es un idoma muy facil de entender. Eres muy tonta si vives en California y no has escuchado el español.
