Ok, followup: cat is fine. She had to stay at the hospital overnight with IV fluids to flush out her system. Also, anyone who understands how picky cats are about what they eat would be surprised that a cat would even consider chocolate food... including the emergency vet, who had never seen a case of a cat eating chocolate in her entire 15 years, simply because cats are not supposed to be dumb enough to try eating it. She had also left said bowl of chocolates (which was up on a high shelf) alone for about three months already, so I had no reason to think she would go after it. Needless to say, I now keep all food items out of reach and sight, regardless of what they are. Since the incident, some of her favorite foods I have discovered (that I mostly try desperately to keep her from eating): tomatoes, peanuts, ice cream, raw sugar snap peas (and other veggies), hair, cardboard, string, rubber bands, and cat litter. The best part? After all that, she doesn't believe that kitty treat tuna flakes are food. Too much like paper...?

My cat loves all kinds of weird foods, including bread, cake, sundried tomato, pineapple, spinach and beans. He refuses to eat fish though.
My cats will sit at your feet and beg every time anyone opens a jar of pickles. They don't actually want any pickles, but I managed to accidentally condition them to do it. I put pickles in my tuna sandwiches, and every time I opened a tin of tuna I would give them a tiny bit... didn't take them long to figure out the association. Thing is, I haven't lived with them in almost a decade, they never get tuna anymore, and... THEY STILL DO IT. Though now they beg for all kinds of stuff they have no actual interest in, not just pickles. You just have to let them sniff it and realize it's nothing they want, then they leave you alone.
Still not as bad as my dog, who after getting dinner and a few scraps, ate the side off my mums dress. He pulls stuff out of the washing machine if the doors not shut properly too. He'd just eat until he pukes then eat again if you let him. There's a coffee table next to the couch, mum went to the toilet and he drank half her milo. He also ate an entire packet of jelly lollies off there and got really sick since they had grape skin extract in them. Pets are fun, aren't they? XD
I'm glad your kitty is okay. Mine likes bread products. Several years ago, my boyfriend left a corn muffin on my dining table overnight, and in the morning we discovered that she'd eaten about a quarter of it. We have to hide bread items from her to keep her from eating them. When he brings bagels over, she'll sniff like crazy trying to get at them. Other than that, she's not much interested in people food. She has torn apart her treat bags if she's particularly hungry. My late kitty went nuts for crackers. She also was crazy for the soy ice cream I would eat. We came to an understanding that if she sat quietly while I ate, I would let her lick the bowl when I was done. It was chocolate, but she just wanted a taste. I don't think it hurt her; she was 18 when she passed.

I think we need a follow up on this to find out if kitty survived this experience, I hope so.
