Today, I went to confession. I told the priest that I had an intimate relationship with a woman that I'm not married to. He chuckled and said, "You know, lying is a sin too." I wasn't lying. FML

He's not saying he cheated on his wife, explicitly, he's saying he had sex with a woman who he's not married to - it could just be someone he met on a night out, a 'friend', etc, etc and while he's single. In either case, so what, why would you have to marry someone to express passion and love? Sex is a symbol of all that. And guess what, you marry someone because you love him/her, you don't love the person because you marry him/her. Love preceeds marriage and if God intended to say that loving someone you're not married to is wrong, then God is wrong and therefore bad.

maybe he was just pointing out that you have also probably lied and need to confess about that... get over it and be happy your priest has a sense of humor

i would never confess anything

A priest with a sense of humor- I like this guy. The fact that he was able to joke about it probably suggests that the confessor was not married (I think if there was a wife and maybe a kid involved, the priest would be a lot more serious). I think the priest was just trying to make you relax a little before giving you advice. Based on another FML, hopefully he told you (among other things) that the answer is not to call the woman and blame her for tempting you.

#11 is an idiot. I'm sorry. That sucks.

that's my new faavorite priest. and yes haveing sex outside of marriage is a sin according to the catholic church whether it's adultery or pre-marital sex.

YDI for going to church! May you burn in hell sinner!!

If your priest really did say this, I have to wonder: Has he actually READ the bible? Come to think of it, have ANY christians? Not just the parts they want to read and quote- I mean the whole thing.

#20: I think he was joking when he said lying is a sin. I doubt he actually didn't believe the guy.
