Today, I went to my first ever job interview, in a totally stressed out state. The employer's first question was: "What's your name?" I forgot. FML

Interviewer: Do you know why you are here? OP: Umm... Urging... John Smith!!!

Should've said, "sorry, I'm just nervous." It solves 9/10 problems. True Story

Maybe you should write it on your hand next time ! :)

that's quite funny, I have a friend that attended idol once, she didn't get passed the first judges though cause she was so nervous she didn't remember what town she came from. She'll be glad when I tell her she isn't the only one managing to mess up with the *minor* details ;)

I would say that's quite rude on the employer's behalf considering they will have already had an application form or a CV with your name clearly stated. Anyway don't worry about it, it's perfectly normal for your mind to blank out in stressful times. I'm sure the employer understood.

I thought it was odd too, I've never been asked my name on a job interview.

Sorry but YDI. Things like this get FYL but anything about someone being even slightly overweight, or someone implying that they are, get YDIs. That's stupid...being overweight isn't something that cane helped. This, however, is. How can you possibly forget your own name? I don't care how stressed out you are, there's no valid excuse for that. I'll admit it's odd that he asked that since he should have already had your name on record, and normally you introduce yourself in an interview first thing, but still. I know interviews are stressful but the more you think about it, the more you're likely to screw up.

Tip : write your name on your hand.... And in Sharpie next time

Did you proceed to go on a destructive rampage while mumbling things about fine dining right after?

When I get nervous I forget a lot of things. Like you, once I forgot how to spell my name...

YDI and I'll tell you why, of course... I'm not just trying to be a troll here. Seriously, as someone with a job that has to deal with the public as well as jackhole co-workers and management, if you can't handle stress then they probably shouldn't be hiring you. Yes, you didn't say what the job was... but all jobs carry stress... that's why it's a job and not play time. So sorry... but maybe you can work on that?

102- I would normally agree, but to be fair, this was OP's FIRST job interview. I was definitely nervous at mine. While all jobs do come with some amount of stress, a good manager should be able to differentiate nervousness from lack of capability.

I lost my voice for my first interview.... luckily got the job. It's ok OP... these things happen xxx
