I see you say friend, but not best friend. My guess is that you might have thought you two were closer than you are and overstepped some boundaries. Unless his family assumed you were his boyfriend and flipped out on you. Either way, that sucks, but good on you for trying to be supportive.

This needs a follow up. Did you two into a fight? Did his family flip out, taking out their anger on you? Did you trip and fall on your way out after a peaceful talk of love and acceptence with your friend's family? The world may never know.

Hey, you were a really good friend for doing that.. If it was him, just try to continue the support and he'll understand where you're coming from. If its his family just do the same but stay away from those jerks.
