Omg that's awful :( at least you took the hit for your friend. You were really there for him.
You're the wrong person at the wrong place giving the wrong sort of support in a home that's not yours. You got away with little because your support has just given him even more problems
It could have been a family member not the gay friend
I am interpreting this as someone in his friend's family punching OP and not his friend. In that case it's sort of predictable in a fashion. It's easier for parents to "blame" OP for his friend's coming out than to "blame" their own son. Not that there is any real blame since The friend did nothing wrong in being honest with his family. But sadly in many circles being gay is still considered "wrong" and when something is "wrong" then "somebody is to blame". Except when there is a real threat of violence, very personal messages within the family need to be within the family. Otherwise, the "outsider" is liable to either get "blamed" or become a unnecessary complication when very personal matters are discussed.
How'd you get the black eye? Did someone hit you or did you just run into something?
Follow up op :)
Can it request a follow up with an explanation of the black eye??

It's a sad day when you get a black eye for being a decent human being.
at least you're a good friend :)
