Today, I went to the store to buy a phone I saw last week. I looked around a little first, then continued to the electronics section. I couldn't find the phone I saw, so I went to leave. Halfway to the exit, I was detained by security and grilled for ages over my "suspicious behaviour". FML

Not finding what you came in for: didn't you know that was an awful crime for business?

That's what happens when you have Rent-A-Cops

Get a lawyer. You do not have to stay there and be questioned

That's when you tell security to eat a bowl of dicks

Why didn't you just ask someone where it went?

In this situation after 5 minutes you tell them either let you go or call the cops. If the call the cops you sue them for defamation of character.

At first I mistook "I looked around a little first" to mean you were making sure no one was looking. Perhaps they thought the same? Or not. :o)

This is exactly what I'm afraid is going to happen to me every time I go to Best Buy

Did you try explaining to them you were looking for (this specific item) and did not see it? It seems pretty ridiculous that they took it that far, I'm sure a lot of people shop around when looking to buy electronics and leave some stores without purchasing anything..

Report them to the store. Loss-prevention gets in serious shit for harassing someone who hasn't stolen. Many places outright fire you if you detain someone wrongfully.
