Today, I went to the store to buy a phone I saw last week. I looked around a little first, then continued to the electronics section. I couldn't find the phone I saw, so I went to leave. Halfway to the exit, I was detained by security and grilled for ages over my "suspicious behaviour". FML

Not finding what you came in for: didn't you know that was an awful crime for business?

That's what happens when you have Rent-A-Cops

I suddenly don't feel bad about making my last major electronics purchases online and having them shipped to my home. (No, not rolling in dough, I just found some good deals.)

One time I went to a store and looked around. Since I am young, the salesperson literally followed me around the store to keep an eye on me. I feel your pain, OP.

Sadly that's pretty normal these days :(

as someone who works in retail, the proper thing to do when you suspect someone is stealing is to go use your customer service skills on them. If nobody offered to assist you then their customer service is awful.

They must have been really bored.. I suppose that's a sign that the place where you live has a low crime rate?

look it up. I lost a bet on the word "colour" once and had to buy my teacher a king sized Butterfinger candy bar.

There is in Canada (which is where this FML is posted from), and in almost every other English-speaking country in the world. And is that really worth commenting anyways?

the following line is a great way to avoid the harassment: "am I being detained, or am I free to go?" If they say anything but "you are being detained..." waltz on away.

Only halfway to the exit...they didn't even know you were leaving at that point!
