They probably belonged to a previous girlfriend and he has been hoarding them until he found a good opportunity to give them to someone who could use them. Hoarders just can't throw anything away. To me, that's the most plausible story. PS, OP's boyfriend: If she buys this load of crap, you owe me big time, bro!
