well honestly its not like he said 'hm today i'm going to ruin my wonderful car and crash it into someones fence' it was obviously an accident, and i'm sure he was distressed about the whole situation and needed to get to work so he either doesn't loose his job, or gets paid for that day, whilst keeping in mind he needs to pay for the damages and the car etc.
For all those saying that OP should have just given him a ride, you probably wouldn't be saying that if someone almost plowed into your home. She got lucky that the tree stopped him, and still has to deal with the damage he caused. Accident or not, it was very impertinent of him to even ask. One word: taxi.
yeah!
Wow, an accident doesn't mean anything. If it's the middle of the night, just means he has a night job.
Wow, the same thing happened to my next door neighbor! The crash was so loud it woke me and my mom up at 2:00 am. They took out two trees and the fence! Plus he was drunk! Weird..!
The guy was probably shocked and confused himself. You don't plow through someone's fence and think straight afterwards. After an accident it's normal to react by having your mind firmly set on getting to your original destination as fast as possible by any means possible. EMTs tell stories all the time of badly injured crash victims insisting on being taken by ambulance to pick up their children or shop for groceries. I'm not saying the OP should've given him the ride at all, I'm just saying the driver's request was understandable and probably not due to rational thinking on his part.
So did he tell you he swerved because he thought leaves blowing across the road were a child?
What a sense of entitlement that guy has. Tell him to take a freaking cab!
I can see why the hospital wanted to check his mental stability

just give him the keys for your car. he seems like a good trustworthy driver.
