Why the **** wouldn't I? Next time you go anywhere, don't bring anything with you. Going to a restaurant? Don't bring your wallet or it might get stolen!

Unfortunately it can happen even there, had my iPod stolen at church, found the person thankfully, he's lucky we were at church
any follow up? i'd love to read what happened when you found him/her
OP I saw some of your comments; if your bag was not left unattended how did it go missing in the first place? Things just don't disappear while you keep a watchful eye on your belongings? Also, it seems a lot of blame was being placed on other people and not yourself? It seems there was a lot of irresponsibility while trying to be responsible and helpful. Who says the homeless people stole it and not someone else helping with the sale? Seems like this can be a learning experience. Never leave personal items where they can be taken even at a church coordinated events.
Weasel you seem to be asking for a lot of credit for a "blame the victim" mentality, and pretend it's under the umbrella of "well we were just trying to help". Oh really? How does your douchebaggery get the OP her items back? I got my purse stolen once because someone on drugs smashed the lock off my gym locker and helped herself. Are you going to blame me because I didn't have a "watchful eye on it" while I was in the pool doing laps? Give her a break
Today, even though I'm a very nice and selfless person, my bag got stolen. But I really am very nice and selfless.
Well yeah, a lot of homeless people tend to steal shit
Maybe someone accidentally sold it?
