Today, in the middle of my online midterm, my computer decided to update and closed out of the test. It can't be retaken. FML

Dont you get a warning before your computer restarts for an update?

YDI for using auto-update. Windows has been around for so long that you should know if you don't control updates yourself, it WILL choose the most inconvenient time to update. And as it's been said before, it pops up with a "The computer will restart in X minutes to apply updates" and you can choose to postpone. I do hope you get to retake, good luck.

Let this be a lesson to all. Set your windows update to not do ANYTHING automagically. It WILL interrupt your gaming, your streaming... even your **** downloading :P

EVERYTHING man made WILL at some point fail! Sorry this happened to you!

I know how that is, sometimes when I do my online school work I hit submit and it for some odd reason doesn't work. And half the time that happens I can't retake the test or quiz and it doesn't even submit.

YDI, know what your settings are and what is happening when! You should make sure all updating is disabled during something like a test. Also, with exception of malware/antivirus you should review your updates before doing the updates.

Why is everyone assuming that it was OP's fault that the computer wasn't updated? I have had to take online mid-terms and finals and they were done on the school's computer. You walk into the room and the test is already uploaded for you and you can't exit the test to check to see if the computer is updated without submitting your exam.

This is obviously fake. And I can say that without breaking the commenting policy because NO school takes midterms in July. NONE.

there is a reminder that pops up you know. you could have delayed it for up to 4 hours i believe, but i agree that it sucks.

For Microsoft if you delay it three times it gets fed up and restarts anyways.
