Today, it was my first day at my new job at a nursing home. Not only were we short staffed, two residents passed away, and I got beaten up by an old man. FML

Those same exact things happened to me on my first day at my new job. Except I was working at a bowling alley so it was much more peculiar...

If two residents passed away you aren't that short staffed anymore now are you? :)

Sounds like a typical day to me. Nursing homes are ALWAYS short staffed until its time for inspection. Just wait, one day when you get your lunch break you'll find that a resident has already eaten half your lunch and slobbered on the rest of it. Enjoy!

Poor u . I working in one is tough and residents beat me up regularly cause alzeimer . U just have to learn how to duck . Believe me its worth it . I make a lot a money doing this.

Holy crap! They've beaten you up so many times you're getting Alzheimer's? Oh wait, no, your post just makes no ******* sense. Although Alzheimer's would explain how you forgot to finish it.

I'm a CNA, I know how rough it can be. I've been punched, groped, felt up, had things thrown at me and called nasty things. Definitely learn how to dodge, it's saved me a bloody nose or two. If they have a history of being combative, don't be afraid to ask for help with their ADL's or try again when they've calmed down. Good luck = ]

Sorry deaths usually happen in 3's so expect another soon. And get used to be abused physically and verbally. I does have its rewards though. Some days they will be lucid and so sweet. If your in it for the money it's not worth it.

Having dated a nurse or two, your life sounds like SOP for nursing homes. Sorry.

Sorry to hear that op, welcome to the health care profession!

Welcome to the nursing home biz, tomorrow you'll get crapped, spit and peed on, and the state surveyors will come and tell you how much you suck.

Thats classified information. Lots of nurses and cnas probably get hit by alzheimers and demntia p0atients, or just any combative patient...but you dont go around talking about it.

you can talk about experiences and misfortunes. you can't include names. op didn't include names or conditions so they clearly listened to the HIPPA lesson in class.

There is no mention of names, location, or situations... Nothing classified has been divulged. HIPAA does not say you can never talk about anything ever outside of the walls of the facility.
