Today, it was my first day at school in the United States. Being from France, my French accent is really strong. After being made fun of all day, I met someone from Montreal. I was so excited and said, "Parlez-vous Français?" And his response? "HUH?!" FML

Also only about 30% or less of people living In Canada are actually from Canada. Immigration is good.

A friend of mine who happens to be french went through the same thing with bullies. He was doing a visitation thing at my school to see if it was a good fit for him. He did not want to go there anymore at the end of the visitation. People need to learn to be more tolerant.

Canadian French and French are very different. Its kind of like high german and low German. It's understandable that the other guy didn't understand right away, he must have had to register the different french then tried to understand. I'm from Quebec and have a friend from France, it took me quite a while to get used to his accent and actually clearly understand all he was saying.

192- why do you specify immigrants? Its more like asking Americans to be open minded. Immigrants learn English because they know they need it to get by. Never have I met an immigrant who demands to be taught in his or her native language, and I live in California, where Americans are the minority. Your comment was ignorant and stupid. Kudos to OP for learning English, but **** you for assuming other immigrants don't.

Why would people make fun of you? French people are totally sexy!

I'm sorry to hear you had a bad experience. Not EVERYONE in the US is ignorant and rude. Just an unfortunate majority.

I'm from Ontario, and in my highschool, we learned basic-level French in the 9th grade, and afterward it was optional to continue studying French. Prior to 9th grade, many of my friends learned basic level French since the 4th-5th grade, but others first started learning 7th-8th grade. It depends on the Canadian, I guess.
