Are you not being trained? The store I work at, we put a seasoned cashier with a new hire at their shoulder for the first couple days, and then have one within shouting distance for at least the first week or two. If you were making big enough or often enough mistakes to get that short, shouldn't your trainer notice?
Which is it
Yea dude your life sucks lol
When I worked at a sandwich shop I got hussled twice. This resluted in the drawer being about $20 short. The third time is happened I recognized it and asked the guy if he was hussling me, but I wasn't allowed to accuse him. He ended up coming back later and returning the money. Anyways, maybe you got hussled, OP.
Well your new and people often steal from new guys. Just try to count everything as many times as you want and calm down. This will happen a few times more.
Banks require tellers to count the money 3 times in the process of giving customers cash you should try something like that for a while
gee maybe you should keep dickin around on your phone instead of paying attention to what you're doing that way maybe you can hit $40 short tomorrow

So either you REALLY suck at your new job, and should be in no position to count/ dispense money whatsoever, or your drawer is short before your day even begins? Are you able to count the drawer yourself before you start. Someone could be pocketing money and using you as the fall guy, being new and all... Either way, be careful.
I would put my money on you being innocent, but it might disappear...
