Today, it was the second anniversary of the day I met my girlfriend. I had to go to work, but I set an engagement ring and a letter on my pillow for when she woke up, and left breakfast for her on the counter. When I got home, she and all of her things were gone. FML

Today, I got home early from work at 2am to find my girlfriend of 5 years missing. Upon further inspection, I caught the "other man" dropping her off out front. So much for the engagement ring I bought for her. FML

Today, I proposed to my girlfriend while we were on my couch having a romantic moment. She seemed incredibly excited when she saw the ring and put it on. The way she bolted out the door tells me I'm not going to see her again. FML

Today, I was sleeping in after working a graveyard shift. I awoke to my girlfriend sneaking her stuff out of the house. She planned on leaving her key on my pillow and taking off without any notice whatsoever. FML

Today, I woke up to a note on my nightstand from my fiancée, along with the ring I proposed to her with yesterday, which stated that not only was she not ready to be married, but she’d been planning to end things before I “blindsided" her. FML

Something like a proposal is a very serious conversation between the couple involved and must be face to face. It should also not be treated as a "romantic stunt" with clowns and balloons and crowds of spectators or family. You seriously screwed up by not having the character to discuss this before hand and not doing it in person.

That was a terrible way to propose, right next to texting or leaving a voicemail... Very impersonal. It was just as terrible and impersonal for her to take all her stuff and leave without even talking to you.

Not all proposals have to be so stereotypical. We don't know what the situation was between the two. Maybe the girlfriend told OP once that she likes to wake up to surprises and he remembered it. In that case, it would be totally cute and romantic.
