Why does an 8 year old not know this is wrong or what could happen? I feel more sorry for the hamster than anything. Don't give your kid anymore pets for the love of whatever god you may believe in don't and keep him away from sharp objects. Kids may not understand why it's wrong but they should no it is wrong by that age.

A similar situation happened to me! My 5 year old sister microwaved her cat

Putting a hamster in a microwave causes it to swell to a abnormally large size and then explode. This happens because microwaves work by making the water molecules in food vibrate extremely fast causing the food to heat. All the water in the hamster has the same reaction resulting in the hamster exploding.
