PhantomKitty tells us more.
To clarify, I have been suffering from anxiety ever since I was a child. I used to not speak to people at all. I got this job as an attempt to break free of my anxiety. For the first nine months or so, it worked. I was much happier and could actually initiate conversations with people I didn't even know. Last year my grandfather was diagnosed with terminal cancer, and in December my mother nearly died. Since then my anxiety has been spiralling out of control. I realize that I should talk to someone and start on medication again, but I can't afford it, as I only make slightly more than minimum wage. I'm sure my family would help me, but I don't wish to bother them.

I'm so sorry you go through that OP. I have the same problem, and living with it is so hard. Good for you for trying, you'll find what works for your anxiety if you keep trying. Pills, meditation, therapy...whatever works for you is good.
I used to take celexa for my anxiety but I switched to just smoking green and it works way better. I'm a cashier and I smoke every day before work
A common side effect of celexa is anxiety.
Maybe if you have a very reasonable and understanding boss, maybe it would help more if you stocked shelves. You can still interact with customers, but not as frequent as a cashier. I hope your life gets a little better. Also, there are free hotlines where you can talk with someone anything. Lastly, when you will be able to afford it a bit more, you can also have a pet to ease some of your anxiety :D
I have really bad anxiety and cashiering really helped me too. I'm still anxious, but I'm good with people. Apparently half the ability to talk with people is smiling blankly (also cashiering lets you practice the 50000 intonations you need to sound unawkward and like you've never been awkward). I've never been on medication but probably should. I've spent years researching herbal treatments and whenever it gets too bad I can just get another. Doesn't fix it, but patches it over till I can get back to normalish on my own. Kava kava, lemon balm, valarian, some people like chamomille and lavender...
Maybe it is wise to consider a position with less interactions until things gets better?
Grow the **** up. It's just words.
Praying for you. I have you’re doing better with your anxiety.

OP, that's what family is for. I'm sure they'll understand, especially if you've had it for so long and it's getting worse :/ lean on each other and you'll be ok :)
I think it's time to seek medical help. If you are panicking from people approaching you, you might want to see about getting an anti-anxiety medicine on board.
