Today, my boss explained that the company will be letting me go. She got so upset that she couldn't leave her office and I had to console her. I had to make her feel less sad for laying me off. FML

I have been laid off and been the manager that laid people off. It's a terrible thing to let someone go for something that was not their fault.

It's shitty for everyone involved, even if you're firing someone for cause, because you know you're cutting off someone's livelihood.
