This is actually a pretty common problem for couples trying to have sex for the first time. I'm guessing they knew how to have sex, but getting it in can be harder than it seems, especially before the cherry's popped. Keep trying, OP, slowly and maybe with more lube, and good luck :)

I know it's awkward, and will probably hurt at first but it's just something to get used to. You should have discussed together and researched any uncertainties before you tried it.
