Today, my boyfriend came over for the first time to meet my family. The night consisted of my sisters hiding in a tent and chasing us around in it, my parents singing songs from 'The Lion King' opera-style and throwing cheese at him. Pretty sure he's freaked out. FML

I had been raving about him for weeks, and everyone was curious to meet this "amazing guy" I'd been dating. He showed up in a Darth Vader costume because he thought it would be funny to embarrass me. Today, I reluctantly agreed to bring my boyfriend home to meet my family. He said he wasn’t easily scared and could handle a “weird” family. Two hours later, there was a massive brawl when one uncle hit the other’s wife after she threw wine in his face. Tables were flipped, cops were called. Shit. FML

Today, I was out to dinner with my boyfriend and his parents. It was my first time meeting them, so I was a bit nervous. As we were talking, I accidentally let out a loud burp. His parents looked at me in shock, and my boyfriend just laughed and said, "Well, she's certainly comfortable around you two." FML

Today, my boyfriend invited me over for dinner for the first time. The place was full of his ex's stuff, books on the shelves, makeup in the bathroom, clothes in the closet and even shoes on the floor. Not to mention creepy plush toys staring at me. She left him 8 years ago. FML

What a delightfully quirky family. If he is scared by all these tid bits of your family Life then maybe you need to rethink the relationship. Ask him how he feels and get it all out in the open hope this helps

Damn, that sounds awesome :D I second the "Dinner and a Show" comment. And triple the "If he sings along, marry him" :P My family is pretty good at goofing off around each other, but my dad is the "tall, silent and stares at you" type when he doesn't know how to respond to something. He's severely scared a couple past boyfriends of mine as a result, when they've attempted cheerful, ingratiating "Hi there Mr. [my last name], how are you?" and my dad stares at them for a minute and then answers ".....fine." in a flat voice.
