FYL because that was a dick move on his part. YDI because you agreed to get his name as a tattoo in the first place.
First of all, chill the hell out, AnneFTW. True, some people will grow to hate their tattoos, but a lot of people don't. And who really gives that much of a shit what they look like when they're old? Tattoos don't lose their meaning just because someone gets older. To the OP: I have a hard time believing that this happened. Tattoos aren't cheap, and if he was going to break up with you, why spend that much money on someone he doesn't want anymore? But on the off chance that this really did happen, I'm on the fence between FYL and YDI. While I'm sorry that he dumped you in one of the greatest douche-moves that I've ever heard of, you NEVER get someone's name tattooed on you.
That is actually HORRIBLE!! you go through all that pain and you now have a reminder of the fact he dumped you..great.
Oh my gosh, totally would have been better had he made a request for a portrait of himself! And 2 years, really? On that note, YDI.
SUE HIS ASS Because you went in with the intention that you were going to be with him forever. He broke up with you immediately after and suggested that he was trying to deceive yoy. If you broke up later on, it would be fine because you both thought it would work out. But he did it in a deliberate way to intentionally hurt you. Any judge would realize that and make him make it up to you. You want compensation for damages and the price of removal etc. See how he likes that, pay $300 for the tat and $3000 for the removal. Yep, his wallet will definitely remember you.

Oh man! You shouldn't have agreed to it in the first place! But what a asshole!
People need to learn not to tattoo their boyfriend/girlfriend's names on them.
