Today, my boyfriend of over a year told me he wanted to learn Korean before Spanish. Apparently, being able to sing along to Gangnam Style is more important to him than being able to speak with my family. FML

Today, I showed up at my boyfriend's work to surprise him by speaking in Spanish, his first language. I've been taking classes secretly. He smiled, kissed me, and then finished telling his friend, in Spanish, that I'm boring and ugly but he's got nothing better going on. FML

Today, I met my boyfriend's very strict and traditional Korean parents. I had to listen to them while they called me a skank and how I was fat and ugly compared to nice, pretty, Korean girls. They don't know I speak Korean. FML

Shouldn't more of the focus being on your parents learning the language of the country they live in? Can't really blame him for not catering to your parents when you've only been dating a year. Chances are you will break up sometime, and this is really a choice that should be about what he wants, and not what you want.

Don't hate on him for doing something he is interested in. My husband is Peruvian but I've been learning Korean because that's where my passion is. I'll get to Spanish when I get to it. I'm sure the same thing goes for your bf. It doesn't mean he doesn't love you.

If you took away the reason of knowing gangnam style, what's wrong with it? Yes it's helpful being able to talk to your family... But shouldn't the effort be on both sides?
