Today, my brother and I had a long argument. He believes wholeheartedly that pineapples are not actually fruits, but berries. When I showed him a google search, he accused me of "faking" it. FML

Just googled it, and pineapples are in fact, a fusion of berries. YDI OP.

A pineapple is not a fruit, but a mass of berries attached to a stalk. So while it is not a single berry, he is technically right.

YES! I knew I was at least a little right!

Berries are basically just a kind of fruit, such as grapes or strawberries

A berry is a specific type of fruit.

Berries can be fruit but fruit isn't always berries, most people don't know that and I'm glad someone Google searched it...correctly lol.

Except not strawberries, because their seeds are on the outside.

"Berries are fruits, except they contain juicy pulps around the seed" thanks to the internet

I never knew that. That's pretty cool!

Just wait until you argue if a banana is a fruit or berry! The fun never ends!

No, he isn't. Pineapples aren't berries, and all berries are fruit anyway, making the entire argument redundant. Pineapples are a 'multiple fruit' (formed from a cluster of flowers); berries are fruit that form from a single ovary and single flower.

But pineapples ARE berries, not a fruit.

To be fair, your brother is sort of correct. Although commonly considered a fruit, a pineapple is made up of berries that are fused together at the stalk. EDIT: 16 beat me to it.

After a quick google search myself, I found out that a pineapple is a "multiple accessory fruit" meaning it's a mass of individual berries fused to the central stalk. This is it has leaves on the top. (These are almost direct quotes from both Wikipedia and a university site)

if google doesn't settle it, nothing will

*sigh* Looks like we're gonna have to call in Chuck Norris to settle it.

Most people think pineapples are fruits but they are in fact insects.

Fruitception! Strawberries are not really berries, but watermelon, pumpkins, bananas, and avocados are?
