Today, my brother and I had a long argument. He believes wholeheartedly that pineapples are not actually fruits, but berries. When I showed him a google search, he accused me of "faking" it. FML

Just googled it, and pineapples are in fact, a fusion of berries. YDI OP.

A pineapple is not a fruit, but a mass of berries attached to a stalk. So while it is not a single berry, he is technically right.

I thought berries were a type of fruit...

They are, so technically both the brother and OP are correct.

He was on the right track, OP. They're actually a fusion of berries; not a fruit. YDI.

Pineapple is a fruit. All berries are fruit, but not all fruits ate berries.

The thing is OP stated that the idea of a pineapple being a berry was an incredibly stupid comment from the brother when in fact it wasn't. OP was just wrong.

I have a younger brother. Sometimes they can be the most stupidest things.

But. But. Pineapples are berries? Thanks for spoiling my childhood Google!

A fruit is the mature ovary of a flower. A pineapple is formed from the fusion of multiple flower ovaries, so it's actually a fusion of multiple fruits, which is also sometimes called a berry

all berries are fruit, not all fruit are berries. oddly enough a pineapple is in fact the formation of a mass of berries. so the fruit is not technically formed from one ovary of one flower. but each individual part is. ... technically one pineapple is a mass of berries. so to say that "pineapple plants produce berries" is entirely correct. therefore the plant could accurately be referred to as a berry, or bacciferous. so neither of you are wrong.
