Today, my co-workers agreed that I was the one causing the elevator to be over its weight limit. When I protested, saying that I only weigh around 150 pounds, one asked me if that included the weight of my wheelchair. They made me get out. FML

Awwwwwwwwwwwwww that is so sad If I was there I would beat for you I m soooooooo srry:(

You bring it up to their superiors, preferably while they're in the room; if the issue isn't resolved, you go up the chain of command until it is. That should not happen in a workplace.

Sorry OP, FYL. My boyfriend has a skeleton-muscle defect that makes it impossible to walk or lift his arms, and people are always taking the very small elevators at the mall in our area, even though there are escalators. Very few of them actually let us on first. The thing that bothers me most is if we go to a hospital to visit family members, groups of nurses will take all or most of the room on an elevator just to go smoke (there is a primary care clinic on the second floor of the hospital) how do they know we aren't there for an appointment? Plus going out to eat makes him feel uncomfortable because people stare because I have to feed him. People also automatically assume he is my brother because of his chair (I actually had a woman ask one day on the bus). I would complain to your boss when the a-holes are in the room... And run over their feet if it ever happens again. :)

You are such a great significant other!(: I'm happy we have people like you!

I'm not trying to be rude or insensitive, but I'm genuinely curious -- what made you date him? I'm obviously not saying people with disabilities don't deserve to have significant others, but being in a wheelchair is one thing, but being physically unable to lift his arms...That seems like it would make it hard to be intimate at all.

da f*ck they think your supposed to do, take the stairs?? God, people like that make me mad.
