Today, my dad suggested that as an alternative to buying me new school clothes that actually fit, I should just join the swim team, lose some weight, and wear my stuff from last year. FML

A better and more practical plan would be to buy clothes at least two sizes larger than you are right now, so you can eat your way into them. Bon apetit!

uuuuh has it ever crossed any ones mind that maybe the op was to young to get a summer job or was in summer school or a traing program ???

ironically enough like 75% of the swimmer chicks at my school are whales... I would like to say that their fat keeps them afloat and on top of the water. basically, you will be good, however you will still be fat, which is like winning the special olympics. you're still retarded....

That's funny. All the swimmers at my school (including me) (and every other school I've seen) have had six packs since age 12.

Honestly, I don't see the point of buying an entirely new wardrobe just for the start of a new school year, especially if you're trying to make your dad pay for it. I understand that you probably don't have a source of income (I don't, and I'm going into my junior year of high school), but the reasonable thing to do is go on periodic shopping trips where you buy a few articles of clothing at a time. That way you can adjust to your changing weight over time, whether it increases or decreases, and always have clothes that fit. I don't blame your dad for not wanting to go on a mad shopping spree in this economy. Also, the swimmers that I know eat a ton of food at every meal to make up for the rigorous exercise, so their weight doesn't change much. Cardio exercises would be a better idea, especially if you aren't a strong swimmer to begin with.

Your clothes might be worn. That's a reason.

I'm a swimmer, and i know from personal experience that you don't join swim team to lost weight. you join to get/stay in shape. You'll lost fat, but gain muscle.

Ya! I'm a swimmer and I know by experience also

If you want all new clothes, get a job and buy them yourself. Otherwise, get fit and wear clothes no one remembers or cares you wore last year. Problem solved.

I really don't know what is sadder to be honest, your post or all the sports related names that agree with your dad... Swmmer

that is the best idea I've ever heard

I say just join the swim team... that way when you come home with bills for the swim gear, insurance, travel expenses, he won't complain again.
