Today, my daughter asked me what is the youngest age at which you should start having sex. Being a good mom, I said that she shouldn't have sex until after she's been married. My daughter then said, "Oh... shoot," and walked away. My daughter is twelve. FML

There's nothing wrong with her saying that. My daughter is around the same age and talks openly about how her friends have "Gone all the way and feel bloatish". This generation disgust me.

Sloop sick of people thinking that just because someone advocates abstinence means they're a bad parent or believe in abstinence ONLY sex ed. My mom always taught abstinence ALONG WITH teaching the real dangers/risks and how to avoid them. You're not a bad mother for telling your kid they should wait till marriage. You're a bad mother if that's all you tell them ever and you don't ever sit then down and tell them about everything and advocate safety should they decide otherwise. Nothing wrong with family values. Just telling kids "hey use a condom" isn't so great either. At least she's trying to instill some sort of moral compass. Also, the girl might not have meant she'd had sex, maybe she was just thinking she could do it soon or something. Better have a talk with her.

Just because the little girl says "oh ... shoot" does not actually mean she had sex, though greatly implies it, it just means that she wanted to. And I agree with #486. There is nothing wrong with educating with all the options but expressing that you prefer the child chooses to wait ...
