The only thing that is disturbing in this thread is people's genuine lack of a sense of humor. Lighten up and take a joke. I would rather have a Dr that jokes around as opposed to someone who has no people skills. OP's reaction after realizing the Dr was joking should have been a "Ah you got me!"
That's not something to joke about - OP could have a very real fear of dying - at that moment they probably saw their loved ones being left behind crying and distressed and realised that everything in life is about to change. That is like someone making you believe your family has died in a terrible accident and then saying they were 'joking' because watching you try and cope with such an awful unimaginable thing is so hilarious. In some ways you could say it is a bit like a mock execution which for the record does cause a lot of trauma to people even though they were not physically hurt. And if OP ever is told by a doctor they have a life-threatening illness - will they believe it?
I would be so angry at that if I were you but at least he has a sense of humor, even if it's a sick one..
I am confused as to why people are so upset it's a joke lighten up a bit.
I'm pretty sure he's not allowed to do that.
"What an asshole!" - Simon Lane
Isn't that illegal?
There was a story like this: The relatives were waiting for hours outside the operating room, when a doctor came out. He said seriously, "We have done our best.” The relatives thought the operate failed and the patient was gone, they begin to cry sadly. the doctor continued, "The operate succeed.
I'm sorry but...how is this supposed to be funny? My doctor can make jokes and have a laugh with me, but he'd never make a 'joke' about something so serious. You trust your doctor to tell you the truth about whats wrong with you and how to sort it out, so if your doctor told you that you we're dying you'd most likely believe him/her. And in that moment between being told and the doctor going 'lol jk' you would panic, and start thinking about how you'd break the news to your family, the cost of the funeral, going to hospital ect. and after thinking about all that, I highly doubt you'd think 'ah he got me, good prank', do people on here go "I'm bored...I'm gonna ring up mum and tell I have terminal cancer" and then tell her to lighten up when you reveal its a joke? I wouldn't say this is worth suing over but its certainly not a way for that doctor to keep patients,
This isn't an fml! It would be an fml if he WASNT joking! Consider yourself lucky, OP :)

How is he allowed to do that?
