My mamaw's toy poodle would do the same thing. You'd have to yell at her to eat and she'd take a couple bites then back away and bark at her food some more.

im guessing it is a metal bowl? he is seeing his reflection which scares him...same thing happened to my dog when he was a little puppy

My dog did this two, is the bowl metallic if it is he might see his reflection and be scared to get close. You might want to change his bowl to a colored plastic bowl

Check for ants OP. My dog did that and we didn't know why but turns out he was just pissed at the ants in his bowl.

There could be ants near the bowl or if it's metal his reflection could be freaking him out.
