Today, my dog proudly brought home a rabbit he'd killed. The same rabbit that belongs to my neighbor's daughter. FML

Did they just keep the rabbit loose in their garden? How did your dog get it?

I think what is missing here is whether the dog went into her garden or the rabbit into yours. Since I can't decide who is to blame otherwise. If it's your dog into there's, then it's your fault and you're buying a new rabbit. If it's there rabbit into your garden, then it's FYL but you don't have to do anything.

Unless OP's dog knows how to open a rabbit run or was inside the neighbor's house, it seems more logical that the rabbit was loose. If the rabbit had been contained in a run or in the house, there's a very slim chance a dog could get to it.

You wouldn't have this problem if you supervised your dog while it was out YDI.

Pretend you have no idea and that it may have ran away. Mine ran away when I was little. Good luck with that. Or be prepared for a trip to the pet store for whatever she wants.

Neither of you have barriers for your domesticated animals? I hope your neighbor isn't like Bill the Butcher in Gangs of New York...

I'd say he's pretty ninja for being able to catch a rabbit.

So I take it it was either free range rabbit that wandered into your yard or you let your dog roam. Someone should really be more vigilant. But hey, no use crying about the past, I hear rabbit makes great stew.

My city states that while dogs have to be crated, on your property, or leashed at all times, cats have no such rule. Let your cat out free range, keep it in, the city doesn't care. Does your mindset change if this was a cat legally allowed to be free range and not a rabbit?

did you eat it all by youself or you shared with your dog?

Pets are legally property in the eyes of the law. Better replace what the dog vandalized!

No where did he say how the rabbit was housed or caged. It may be a YDI on the part of the rabbit owner if the cage didn't have a top on it for aerial predators or ones that could leap the fence or reach over. Still, all dogs should be trained not to attack and to heel or be gentle. If not bunnies for children! We had to put a dog to sleep after it killed a cockatiel, as it was untrainable not to attack and my sister feared her children would be maimed by it.
