Your teacher was obviously using a more familiar speech register to try and motivate you with some friendliness. The problem does not lie in using a familiar speech register when appropriate, it lies in not knowing the formal one and proper writing of it.
you could have just pointed out that ain't isn't actually a word. As it's not short for are not or is not. Being a smart-ass won't get you the grade but sometimes pointing out the irony of the teacher's terrible sentence can make the teacher look dumb and you get to feel superior.
